Weekend Away 2020Radical youth regions across the UK come together every year in February for a retreat in a location away from all the regional RY fellowships locations. The aim of the weekend away is to create a platform for all radical youth region to meet with each other and get to know one another. The primary aim is to ensure that unbelievers get a chance to know more about Jesus his calling to all of us, have the chance to ask questions and to explore the new creation life in Christ Jesus.
In 2018, the theme of this year's retreat is "Dare to..." Have faith in Jesus, to obey, to be discipline.... In a nut shell, this weekend away was a call for all (old and young) to have faith in God that when we come to Jesus and lay down our lives , He is able to live through us and make us righteous before God, not once but now and for ever more. This stems from 2 Corinthians 5v14 |
A testimony by Bethany: How I met with the Lord through Weekend Away
Weekend Away 2018, was the first time I went to Weekend Away and it was brand new experience I was just a few months saved when I went. Something I still remember from one of the messages is that we always should keep learning a new skill. Just because your lecture starts at 1PM, doesn’t mean you should sleep until it’s time to go to your lecture. Instead why not learn a new skill in your free time? Besides that, the Holy Spirit Ministration was a whole new experience to me, I had never seen something like that before in my life. It was a bit scary to see the power of God moving, but it made me realise again that God is alive and real. What I took from this Weekend Away is that we are all in need for God, none of us are perfect. I realised this when I heard the testimonies of others, and it opened my eyes to see that Christians do make mistakes, but the God who is perfect He can turn every situation around.
Weekend Away 2019, was an eye opening and humbling experience. My favourite sermon was about holiness. And what I picked up from this message is that we can only start living a holy life when the Holy Spirit comes and take over our life. Going to Weekend Away for the second time I had many expectations, but they weren’t fulfilled in the way I thought they would. I remember that after the event I was quite disappointed because of that. But God opened my eyes to see that my life isn’t about me but only about Him and for His glory, if His will is being done then that’s enough. Not my will, but Yours be done. What I took away from this experience is to be content in what the Lord has given me and that he will give me the desires of my heart in His timing.
Even though Weekend Away is just 2 nights and 3 days, both times I can say I’ve grown a significant amount in my understanding of the Lord. So, I would say if you would like to spend some time with God away from your normal environment to grow in your relationship with the Lord than going to Weekend Away is a perfect way to do just that.
